Regulatory and Environmental Specialist

Berry Corporation (bry) has an opening for a Regulatory and Environmental Specialist that will do the right thing while supporting complex company-wide health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance projects. They must own it and breed excellence as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for environmental requirements and regulations, concentrating on hazardous/non-hazardous waste management and water discharge requirements. Supports responsible stronger together operational compliance with all Company policies, practices, and programs. Taking corrective action within training limitations and escalates as needed. To be successful, the ideal candidate must exhibit Berry’s core values of Stronger Together, Own it, Breed Excellence, Do the Right Thing, and Responsible. Typically requires 5+ years of HSE regulatory experience in the oil and gas industry.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provides environmental support to drilling, construction, and production operations.
  • Directly manages multiple HSE programs in support of compliance.
  • Uses professional networking and relationship-building skills to benefit the company’s HSE program.
  • Engages in directing and management of HSE consultants.
  • Identifies, creates, and delivers training materials related to environmental topics and requirements.
  • Organizes, schedules, and completes complex projects and assignments on time; supervision diminishes with tenure.
  • Collaborates with Operations, HSE, and other functional teams to meet area and departmental HSE goals effectively.
  • Identifies possible regulatory compliance gaps and presents recommendations and solutions to management; uses a disciplined approach to problem-solving and occasionally utilizes more senior staff for guidance.
  • Maintains documentation and submits reports in compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Liaises with regulatory agencies.
  • Prepares and maintains written HSE programs necessary for regulatory compliance.
  • Complies with all Company policies, practices, and programs. Takes corrective action within training limitations. Escalates as necessary.
  • Participates in and adheres to all training programs designed to enhance HSE knowledge, safety standards, and job performance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

  • 5+ years of HSE regulatory experience in the oil and gas industry required.
  • Air, waste, and water regulatory experience is preferred.
  • High School Diploma / G.E.D. equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or environmental science-related discipline strongly preferred.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.

  • Ability to negotiate between multiple stakeholders toward a collaborative answer to complex problems.

  • Advanced knowledge of oil and gas operations and the implications for compliance with environmental, health, and safety laws & regulations.

Compensation & Benefits

Competitive salary depending on experience including a short-term cash incentive bonus and long-term incentive awarded in restricted share units.
